Elizabethton
High School

Redesigned by students, for students, Elizabethton High School now retains the best traditions of a comprehensive high school—with its football team, marching band, and clubs—while also providing a new model for high school that encourages students to play a much more active role in their learning. Starting with two small pilot courses in 2017, Elizabethton has gradually adopted more project-based learning (PBL) classes. Teacher Alex Campbell’s sociology students helped solve a cold-case involving a serial killer, and became the subject of the iHeart media podcast Murder 101.

Grand Rapids
Public Museum School

An innovative high school powered by place-based learning, where the community is the classroom. Located in a historic downtown building that once housed the western Michigan city’s revered museum and is still home to its archives, students use and explore more than 250,000 artifacts and current displays at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Purdue Polytechnic
High Schools

Developed in partnership with Purdue University, business leaders, the city of Indianapolis, and the state of Indiana with a powerful goal in mind—to raise the number of students from underrepresented backgrounds attending Purdue University and pursuing STEM careers. The first of the three campuses opened in 2017 with a nontraditional schedule and a project-based, student-centered approach to learning.
